First Snow

Dec.  2007

 The first snow fall of 2007 was a eventful one. Melrose Fire responded to 4 MVA during the storm, including one rollover. No serious injuries were reported.

Rescue on the Rocks

 

June 23rd 2007

On Sat. June 23rd Melrose, Schaghticoke and Hoosic Valley were dispatched to a possible rope rescue in the Village of Schaghticoke. Upon arrival there was one patient found down on the banks of the Hoosic River. Crews used ropes and other rescue techniques to reach and remove the patient from the the rocks. More crews were called to the scene to help remove the patient up steep slopes and rock.

Units: R-20, R-30, B-20, 18-8, B-18, Chiefs from both Melrose and Schaghticoke, Stillwater Fire, HVRS

 


Entrapment Leads to Two Birds

 

June 15th  2007

Melrose and Schaghticoke Fire were dispatched to a Delta EMS traffic with entrapment at approx. 1530hrs.  Upon arrival of the first crews, there were 3 victims in the car. Two Med. flight helicopters were flown in the transport the patients quickly to the hospital. All 3 patients were cut from the car by cutting off the roof and door. Speigletown was dispatched to land the "Bird" and Hemstreet Park was put on stand-by in Sta. 20.

 


Extrication Challenge

 

June 3rd  2007

On the weekend ending June 3rd, Melrose, along with 12 other companies participated in the 6th annual Extrication Challenge. Teams are judged on many different areas during their extrication, including stabilization, advancement  toward the patient, etc. Melrose would like to congratulate all the winners in the challenge.

 


Signal 30 in Speigletown

 

May 15th 2007

On Tue. May 15th Melrose, Speigletown, Schaghticoke, Pleasantdale, Center Brunswick and Waterford were dispatched to a reported fully involved structure fire at 99 Leversee Rd. in Speigletown. EL-35 first was first on scene followed by 20-6. After establishing a water supply crews from Melrose made entry into the building. Crews were then pulled out due to the concern of a roof failure. The fire was brought under control but not after the house was a total loss.

Brush Fire in "The Park"

 

May 14th 2007

On Mon. May 14th Melrose was called mutual aid to a working brush fire in Hemstreet Park Fire District. The fire, located behind Burrello Airport was out of control and spread quickly along the railway.  B-20 and Atv-20 made entry along the tracks while crews from Hemstreet Park, Mechanicville and Hillcrest worked to extinguish the flames. Fire was brought under control and extinguished  in a little over an hour. It is not known how the fire started.

Reported Structure Fire on Northline

 

April 16th 2007

On Mon. April 16th Melrose, Schaghticoke, Hemstreet Park, Hoosic Valley, and Johnsonville fire were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Northline drive at approx. 1020 hours.  Upon arrival of 20-6 and Schaghticoke Car 1,  smoke filled the residents.  All mutual aid not responding were held in quarters.  The cause of the smoke was a furnace malfunction, due to raising waters in the basement.  B-20 was called on scene to remove the water from the basement and all units were cleared from the Signal 20.

Tri-County R.I.T. Drill

 

March 25th 2007

On Sun. March 25th Melrose held its quarterly tri-county F.A.S.T. drill.  Companies including Greenwich, Mountain View, Stillwater and Johnsonville attended. The drill is designed to have the F.A.S.T.  teams drill and work together while learning and sharing each others techniques. Melrose would like to thank all the joined us.

 


Truck Takes Out Utility Pole

 

March 13th 2007

On Tues. March 13th Melrose, Schaghticoke Fire were dispatched to Bravo EMS MVA Truck into a pole in the area of Gutbrout Rd and Rt. 40. Melrose Car 3 was on scene first followed by R-20. On arrival one pick up drove into a pole breaking it clean in half. No patients were transported.

Morning Mutual Aid Head-On

 

March 8th 2007

On Thurs. March 8th Melrose, Speigletown Fire were dispatched to Bravo EMS head on MVA on RT. 40 in the area of Fograty Rd. Speigletown 35-1 and chiefs were first on scene followed by R-20. One patient was transported via HVRS.

Early Morning Rollover on 40

 

March 3rd 2007

On Sat. March 3rd Melrose, Schaghticoke Fire were dispatched to a rollover into a pole at approx. 0515 hours. Upon arrival of Chiefs and R-20 there was one patient with minimal injuries out of the vehicle. Units stayed on scène until the vehicle was removed while traffic was rerouted.

CO on Chester Ct.

 

Feb. 26th 2007

On Monday February 26th Melrose, Pleasantdale, Center Brunswick, Mountain View  and Speigletown Fire were dispatched to a possible structure fire in Speigletown fire district. Speigletown Car 2 first on scene determined that it was a furnace malfunction and the house filled with CO. 20-6 was the first apparatus on scene and searched the residents while removing pets. 35-1 arrived and assisted and all others put on stand by.  7-7 was then called to the scene to vent the structure.  Units were cleared without incident.

Jammed Door Turns into Extrication 

 

 

Feb. 23rd 2007

On Friday February 23rd Melrose, Schaghticoke, and Speigletown Fire were dispatched to a Delta EMS for MVA with entrapment. Crews quickly popped the driver door to free the patient.

Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007
Melrose and Schaghticoke Fire were dispatched to a Delta EMS traffic accident at approximately 1700hr. Upon arrival of R-20 two patients were treated and then transported via HVRS.

Rollover During Drill

 

Thursday Jan 18, 2007
 Melrose Fire and Schaghticoke Fire were dispatched to a Delta EMS traffic accident for a one car roll over on State Rt. 67 at approximately 2030 hours. Upon arrival of R-20 and 20-6 there were minimal injuries found, and the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad transported one patient.

Early Morning Extrication

 

Wednesday Jan 17, 2007
 Melrose, Speigletown Fire Departments were dispatched to a roll over MVA with entrapment at 0620 hours. R- 20 first on scene began to extricate.  Followed by 35-1 and other units until the victim was out. Traffic was backed up for miles during the job. Units remained on scene for a long period of time while police conducted an investigation.

Truck Vs. House

 

Sunday Jan 14, 2007
Melrose, Schaghticoke, Speigletown, Johnsonville, Hemstreet Park Fire Departments were dispatched to a car into a house on N.Y. 40 at approximately 0900 hours. The truck crashed through an old town library then into and antique store with living quarters above.  A smoke condition on the first floor caused a structure box to be pulled with full F.A.S.T. team from Johnsonville Fire. Shortly after the County sheriffs arrived and took the driver into custody.
